Athletics events are open to athletes in all disability classes. Some compete in wheelchairs; others with prostheses, and visually impaired and blind athletes compete with the guidance of a sighted companion. Events include track, throwing, jumping, pentathlon and the marathon. Athletes compete according to their functional classifications in each event and these events are continually being redefined to include as many athletes as possible.

Wheelchair Athletics in Great Britain is one of the most successful sports of recent years with no less than 25 medals being won in the last three Paralympic Games. CP Sport provides opportunities for anyone with cerebral palsy who wishes to be involved in athletics regardless of age or ability.
At the Paralympics in Beijing, fifteen members of CP Sport were selected for the Great Britain Athletics Team.
